Tokyo Olympics Updated Guidelines for BA Ops: Despite rumors of cancelation, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics are set to go ahead this July through to September.

International operators should be aware of the updated guidelines for non-scheduled flight coordination at certain Japanese airports during this time.

Operators must apply for slots and parking coordination by March 20.

Ad-Hoc Coordination:

• Applications open until March 20, 2020 deadline
• Flight scheduled 3 months: July 1 – Sept 30, 2020
• Applicable airports: RJTT, RJAA, RJAH, RJGG, RJCC, RJSS
• Scheduled date of answers is March 31

RJBB and RJNA are not inclusive special coordination airports.

Three airports will be designated as Level 3 for the period from July 1 to September 30 according to WSG 6.6 (Temporary Change of Level) – New Chitose Airport (CTS), Sendai Airport (SDJ) and Chubu Airport (NGO).

Ibaraki Airport (IBR) will be used as Tokyo Metropolitan Airport for the proximity to downtown Tokyo.

New Chitose Airport (RJCC) (L2→L3):

New Chitose Airport located north of Tokyo with a distance of 820Km currently as Level 2 will be designated as Level 3.

Sendai Airport (RJSS) (L1→L3):

Sendai Airport located northeast of Tokyo with a distance of 300Km will be designated as Level 3. The airport

has two runways; the main runway is 3,000m (09/27) and the crosswind runway is 1,200m (12/30). There are 14

parking spots; 6 are fixed spots and 8 are open spots (small).

Chubu Airport (RJGG) (L2→L3):

Chubu Airport located west of Tokyo with a distance of 280Km currently as Level 2 will be designated as Level 3.

Ibaraki Airport (RJAH):

Ibaraki Airport located northeast of Tokyo with a distance of 80Km will be used during the Olympics and Paralympics Games.

The airport is commonly used by Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) and Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF).

The airport has close parallel runways; one is 2,700m (03R/21L) for JASDF use and the other is 2,700m (03L/21R) for JCAB use.

There are 8 parking spots, 3 are fixed spots and 5 are open spots (small) for JCAB use.
