Flight Operations to Super Bowl LVIII  

Super Bowl LVIII gets underway February 11 at the Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. 

Defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers in the first Super Bowl to be held in the state. 

Here’s what operators need to know about flight operations to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. 

Operational information for Super Bowl LVII  

Reservation Program (Feb. 7 – Feb. 13) 

• A reservation program is essential for all non-scheduled general aviation operations at Las Vegas area airports, including Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), Henderson Executive Airport (HND), North Las Vegas Airport (VGT), and Boulder City Municipal Airport (BVU) 
• Reservations are required for both arrivals and departures, including drop-and-goes, due to anticipated high air traffic volumes 
• Operators should secure reservations through their chosen FBO as soon as possible 

FAA Traffic Management Initiatives (Feb. 7 – Feb. 12) 

Anticipate various air traffic management initiatives like Ground Delay Programs (GDPs), Airspace Flow Programs (AFPs), Time-Based Metering, Miles in Trail, Airborne Holding, and Ground Stops to efficiently manage heavy air traffic demand. 

Special Air Traffic Procedures: Specific IFR arrival and departure routes will be in effect in the Las Vegas area from the morning of February 7 to late night on February 13, as outlined in the FAA’s Domestic Notice. 

Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) on Game Day (Feb. 11) 

A TFR is expected around Allegiant Stadium, prohibiting general aviation operations within a 10-mile radius of the stadium, with additional restrictions from 10-30 nautical miles.

Pilots should regularly check NOTAMs for the latest information. 

Customs Screening (Feb. 7 – Feb. 12) 

• Special customs screening hours are available at Harry Reid International Airport and Henderson Executive Airport.
• For requests outside operational hours at LAS, operators can use the Reimbursable Services Program.
• No such service is available at HND. 

Extended Tower Hours at HND and VGT 

• The air traffic control tower hours will be extended at Henderson Executive (HND) and North Las Vegas (VGT) to accommodate increased departure volume after the Super Bowl game. 

Flight Plan Filing Requirements 

• Flight plans should be filed at least 6 hours, and no more than 24 hours, before the proposed departure time. 

VFR Arrivals & Potential Holding 

• VFR arrivals may face delays and potential holding during peak traffic periods. Advisory service within Las Vegas TRACON and associated towers will be workload-dependent. 

Air Files/IFR Pick-Ups and Training Flights 

• Restrictions apply, with air files and IFR pick-ups not being accepted from airborne flights except for emergencies, and training flights being discouraged in the Las Vegas metro area.
