Beijing now requires inbound travelers to undergo health monitoring for an extra 7 days following 21 days of medical observation, authorities have announced.

The latest requirement was confirmed following a meeting by the Chinese capital city’s COVID-19 prevention and control leadership group.

It was decided that anti-epidemic management at the designated quarantine centers will be further strengthened and testing to target related personnel and surroundings will be conducted more frequently.

Recently, there have been cases in Beijing and other cities across the country in which inbound travelers were confirmed as COVID-19 positive after 14 days of isolated observation, which led to a rise in domestic cases.

In response to the situation, Beijing earlier this month extended the COVID-19 observation period for inbound travelers to 21 days.
