Aviation Trends to Watch Out For in 2025 – Each year brings new momentum to the dynamic global business aviation market. Recently, we have seen electrification, enhanced personalization, and sustainability take centre stage. So, what could be in store this year? Let’s consider the aviation trends to watch out for in 2025.

Growing demand

Passenger numbers are set to continue its growth trajectory this year. According to projections from International Air Transport Association (IATA), global aviation passengers will hit 5.2 billion in 2025. This represents a 6.7% increase on 2024 numbers. In business aviation, corporate travel will continue to grow as more businesses opt for private aviation for their travel solutions. This will be reflected in a growing demand for charter aircraft availability, as well as increased operational flexibility and efficiency. Expanding fleets will also support the expansion of MRO sector.

Cargo boom

Air cargo is set to boom in 2025 fuelled by the continued rise in e-commerce and ongoing geopolitical situations impacting shipping routes. IATA forecasts a 5.8% increase in air cargo volumes this year— representing a rise to 72.5 million tonnes. Our industry must be ready to serve this market with speed and reliability.

Cheaper jet fuel

We may see some savings on fuel this year… IATA anticipates the average cost of jet fuel per barrel in 2025 will be 87 USD, down from 99 USD last year. However, there are many factors at play when it comes to fuel prices. Supply chain dynamics, geopolitical events, and economic conditions all affect supply which dictates price. Let’s hope IATA’s prediction is accurate!

eVTOLs to go live

After years of development and anticipation, Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing eVTOL aircraft are expected to enter commercial service this year. This will be a game-changer, particularly for urban mobility. However, challenges such as development costs, certification processes, and, of course, public trust, remain. That said, eVTOLs are set to provide environmentally friendly, rapid transport solutions for both passengers and cargo.

Wider application of AI

The scope of artificial intelligence appears to be endless. We have already made significant inroads in the realm of aviation, including in flight route optimization, data analytics, and fuel efficiency algorithms. In 2025, we’re likely to see further developments in autonomous flight technology and predictive analytics for flight management.
